organizations and change in Africa

The aim of this
workshop for managers is to develop capabilities for managing effectively and
appropriately in Africa. We anticipate that many of the managers who
collaborated in the project Management and Change in Africa will
participate. But it is open to any managers who would like to benefit from the
results of our extensive research and development project, and who is able to
contribute to implementing recommendations, and developing appropriate
management in sub-Saharan Africa. Outline
Programme
The workshop will cover the following themes, or sets

Constraints and opportunities in Africa
Understanding the complexity of operating constraints within Africa and turning
these into opportunities
2: Incorporating multiple stakeholders
Accommodating the interests of multiple stakeholders3:
Broadening decision processes
Developing effective decision-making processes that give voice to these
interests 4: Obtaining
commitment and motivation
Obtaining commitment and motivation by reconciling conflicts between work and
home/community life 5: Using
appropriate principles
Assessing the appropriateness of management techniques in different
socio-cultural contexts 6:
Managing multiculturalism
Managing the dynamics of multiculturalism 7:
Building cross-cultural training and development processes
Developing an awareness of own cultural values and the way they influence the
management of people.
